Just finished a painting that I'm submitting to a local show - HOT! Texas Artists Respond to Climate Change Exhibition, sponsored by Bihl Haus Arts.
- About the piece -
Playing outside for older generations is commonly described as a fond memory. There was simplicity in the yard, in the games, in the joy. Modern children, however, are spending less and less time outdoors. Effects of climate change such as severe weather and an increase in allergens are just a few reasons why the children of today might spend more time indoors.
My artwork is highly influenced by memories, antique photos, forgotten words, and sentimental thoughts. With that in mind, I felt that climate change and its effects on children would fit in with my style of work. The piece shows children at play and - much like a memory or an antique photo - they are fading. While children are spending less and less time playing outside, the idea of simply enjoying the outside will itself fade... Just like a memory… Just like an old photo.
