I am so excited to share a new project that I have started. Custom work has been such a positive experience and I’m always honored when folks tell me that certain things remind them of my work. I recently received a custom order with the most wonderful vintage inspiration photo. I was excited to get started and began to hunt around for some old paper to draw on when I remembered that a friend had saved me some very old sketchbooks that she’d found. This friend is a high school art teacher who had been cleaning out her classroom at the beginning of the year when she found a stack of old sketchbooks hidden away in a cabinet. What a treat they are, with each book filled with penciled landscapes on beautifully aged paper. As soon as I came back across these books in my studio, I knew that I wanted to use them for the custom work. Immediately after finishing the custom piece, I started in on the next (which is usually how it goes). I am happy to be “in it”… I'm happy to know that part of my days will consist of old paper and marker… And I’m happy to know that I will be challenged to keep the integrity of the original sketch while adding to it with my cheap ol’ sharpie.
